Siren Communications Founder & CEO Ann Layton

Ann Layton

Founder & CEO

Ann Layton is widely recognized as one of the world's leading specialists in the field of travel and tourism communications. Prior to starting Siren Communications in 2002, Layton was Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts where she was responsible for all communications for over 70 hotels worldwide.  She has a Master's Degree in Economics (MSc) from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and is fluent in French and Spanish.

Named "Green Hotelier of the Year" by the International Hotel Association in Paris France, Layton created and implemented one of the industry's first comprehensive environmental programs. Layton has served on the Communications Committee of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) in London, England, and was an original member of the International Hotels Environment Initiative (IHEI) under the auspices of the Prince of Wales Business Leaders Forum.

She found her love for the industry working as a waitress at Jasper Park Lodge and is a former Wardair flight attendant.

April Unwin  Account Director  April Unwin brings over 10 years of experience in luxury lifestyle public relations to the Siren team. Before taking on the role of Account Director at Siren, April was the owner of a boutique public relations consulting firm and previous to that, she developed the public relations and marketing program for a top Canadian skin care company.  Her experience is international, having worked with clients and campaigns in Europe, the UK, and throughout the U.S. April’s contacts and communications expertise reach far beyond the borders of Canada to help secure opportunities and press in other regions.  April holds a BA from Queen’s University and an honours in Fashion Marketing from the Academy of Design. A former resident of The Bahamas, April still maintains close ties with the island country and is a proud board member of The Canadian Lyford Cay Foundation.  April’s role at Siren includes client relations, business development, and mentoring.

Vera Blair  VP Office & Client Administration  Vera Blair has been with Siren Communications for more than a decade, overseeing all administrative aspects of the business including client admin, human resources and new business development. Vera brings her years of experience to the table in the creation and implementation of effective PR and marketing strategies for all Siren clients.  Vera excels at managing Siren’s professional service providers and helping to maintain the high-quality standards that Siren is known for, taking a structured approach to ensuring Siren clients are valued and well served. She is most proud of starting Siren’s internship program, helping many young professionals gain early experience in the public relations field.  Vera completed a degree at Ryerson University with a focus on fashion design, production management and business administration. She also completed the Human Resources Management course at University of Toronto, School of Continuing Studies. She is passionate about travelling, yoga, and health and wellness.

Sarah Harris  Director, Digital & Social Media Strategy  Sarah Harris is Siren’s Director, Digital & Social Media Strategy. Prior to launching Siren’s digital and social media footprint, including digital magazine, Siren Traveller, Sarah earned her editorial stripes both close to home and abroad. Sarah earned a Fashion Arts Diploma from Humber College, and an International Fashion Business Degree from Nottingham Trent University, UK. Her time abroad was spent writing a beauty-focused dissertation and manning the editorial news desk at British VOGUE.   In addition to her internship in London, UK, Sarah interned at some of Canada’s leading publications including, Hello! Canada Magazine and Fashion Magazine, and has been published in a variety of digital and print publications including S/Magazine, The Coveteur, Canadian Traveller, Real Weddings Magazine, FASHION Magazine, Hello! Canada Magazine and more. Sarah comes with five years of working editorial, e-commerce and social media experience, including her Managing Editorial post at eLUXE Media.

Jyoti Minhas  Senior Account Supervisor  Jyoti Minhas graduated from OCAD University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2011, specializing in Criticism & Curatorial Practice. That same year, she began to work at Interac Corporation, and after two years, officially completed a 10-year effort to restructure the company from an association to a corporation. She now uses her enthusiasm, creativity and tenacity to assist her clients with all their PR needs.

Sammie Bassir  Accountant, CGA  Sammie Bassir is a Certified General Accountant (CGA) and certified professional (CPA). Sammie has a BA in Economics from University of Tehran, certified by University of Toronto. She’s worked with Siren Communications since February 2018 and brings years of accounting experience to the team.

Sarah Bresler  Consultant  Sarah Bresler is a PR consultant, working on the Exclusive Resorts account at Siren on a freelance basis. She previously worked full time at Siren from 2012 to 2015 as a manager where she looked after multiple accounts. Sarah received her undergraduate degree in Journalism from New York University, and at this time held various internships in the fashion world, for brands including Alexander McQueen, Diane Von Furstenberg, and at Esquire Magazine. She began her career in PR at leading agency PRCo in London, England in 2010, where she was an account executive on luxury travel brands, including Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. She moved back to her hometown of Toronto in 2012 where she worked for Siren, and then transitioned to an in-house role doing PR for CHANEL for two years before going out on her own at the end of 2017.

Nichelle Roberts  Account Coordinator  Nichelle Roberts is Siren’s account coordinator. After graduating from The University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, Culture and Information Technology, she worked as a social media coordinator for a renowned culinary brand. She then continued her studies in Public Relations at Humber College and secured the role as editor of creative fiction novel, The Summoning. Her passion for hospitality lead her onwards to Siren Communications. From a family of hoteliers and a Caribbean upbringing, Nichelle has an innate understanding of the hospitality and travel industry. At Siren Communications, she assists the team and clients with day-to-day support and helps with the creation and implementation of PR strategies.

After graduating from The University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, Culture and Information Technology, she worked as a social media coordinator for a renowned culinary brand. She then continued her studies in Public Relations at Humber College and secured the role as editor of creative fiction novel, The Summoning.
