Ann Layton is widely recognized as one of the world's leading specialists in the field of travel and tourism communications. Prior to starting Siren Communications in 2002, Layton was Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts where she was responsible for all communications for over 70 hotels worldwide.  She has a Master's Degree in Economics (MSc) from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and is fluent in French and Spanish.

Named "Green Hotelier of the Year" by the International Hotel Association in Paris France, Layton created and implemented one of the industry's first comprehensive environmental programs. Layton has served on the Communications Committee of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) in London, England, and was an original member of the International Hotels Environment Initiative (IHEI) under the auspices of the Prince of Wales Business Leaders Forum.

She found her love for the industry working as a waitress at Jasper Park Lodge and is a former Wardair flight attendant.

At Siren, we are passionate about our work.
Our team members describe the first time they were inspired by travel.

Vera Blair Vice President Operations "I still remember the first trip I took without my family – a school trip to Quebec City. I jumped on the bus with my Polaroid camera, grade-7 level French and a sense of wonder. We stayed at the Chateau Frontenac and from the moment we arrived, I was in awe of the entirely different culture that existed just one province away."

Jennifer Ellis Senior Account Manager "I was first inspired by travel while on a family road trip to Canada's east coast. From Toronto we drove to Ottawa, Quebec City, Fredericton, and ended with a few weeks in Prince Edward Island, living the beach life. I was only seven at the time, but I remember that feeling of discovering that there was so much out there beyond my backyard."

Dena Gouweloos Account Supervisor “Stepping into warm Florida sunshine after my first plane ride gave me a rush, as I realized that only a few short hours can bring the far corners of the world so much closer. I still feel that rush every time the plane door opens—stepping into any new climate or culture for the first time is an exhilarating adventure.”

Sarah Rigler Account Supervisor "Growing up, I travelled a lot with my family throughout the USA and the Caribbean, although the first time I was truly inspired by travel was when I moved to Sydney completely on my own and backpacked around Australia and New Zealand. It was then I knew I had the travel bug that would last forever and since then, my itchy feet haven’t stopped."

Sarah Harris Managing Editor, Digital & Social Media "My first taste of wanderlust was when I packed my bags and moved to London at 23. After stepping off the plane, I took one look around Heathrow and thought, what have I just done? I grew wings, gained confidence and mustered up a whole lot of strength. Ever since then I've been obsessed with stamps on my passport and geotags on my Instagram feed."

Olivia Brutto Account Coordinator “While on a cruise with my father, age 13, he woke me up at dawn, took me up to the highest deck of the ship and as we watched the sunrise over the Caribbean Sea he said to me: “Look at all that water – can you believe it? There is a whole world out there, and it's never ending.”

Britney Hope Writer "I was 14 when my parents took me on a road trip to the Rocky Mountains. Eating in family-run diners, meeting interesting people along the way, and discovering how vast our country really is made me realize that there’s way more to the world than my little patch of grass at home. After that, I knew all I wanted to do, ever, was travel. I was hooked.”

Sally Chow Accounting "I flew for the first time when I was nine. My parents let me skip a week of school to travel to California with my grandfather. There were so many firsts that trip – spotting a palm tree, going to Grauman’s Chinese theatre, trying Japanese food, and to top it all off, spending a day at Disneyland! After that trip I was not only bit by the travel bug, I was determined that I would explore the world beyond my small hometown."

Jeronimo De-Miguel Brand Strategist "Travel has been a part of my life since I was a kid growing up in Argentina crossing the Andes every January to spend weeks under the Chilean sun at a small town called Pichidangui. I recently returned to the spot and immediately fell in love with it all over again. In my mind that's what travel is all about, the opportunity to connect to a place in the world at a very intimate and personal level."

Natalie Gardner Digital & Creative Coordinator "My first taste of adventure was moving to Sydney, Australia for six incredible months. In my first few days, I remember sensing a feeling of pure, genuine happiness - a feeling that permanently stuck throughout my time there. The feeling described is called “eudaimonia,” the contented, happy state you feel when you travel. I’ve come to learn there is no better feeling in the world."

Garlande Haney Digital & Creative Coordinator "I fell in love with travel on a trip to the Maasai Mara. While there, I realized that the best education I could get would be by immersing myself in different cultures, exploring beautiful landscapes and experiencing new adventures. Since then, I've challenged myself to step out of my comfort zone every chance I get - nothing has ever made me happier."
